As a bit of an experiment we thought we'd bring you a few CD reviews where
we thought we'd let the band do all the talking. What do they think about
the songs on their latest release?
Here we let B Movie Heroes lead singer Neil Philips talk us through the
thinking behind each of the songs off their new mini album …
1) Lie Down and Die - just a bitter and twisted appeal to those musicians
who are 'flogging a dead horse'. Sort of a reverse comic relief.
2) Old Blue Shoes - A rant at the government, who seem to do nothing to
help those of us who are lazy and don't want to get a job. They make
signing on a major chore when it should be celebrated. Also an anthem to
anyone who refuses to buy into the 9 'til 5 life.
3) Cheap Surrender - A celebration of those tunes you always put on whilst
getting ready to go out on a Saturday night. The 3-minute pop
nuggets that make you want to wet your whistle. All about how simple tunes
can lift you up and become the most important thing in your life. Inspired
by "Surrender" by Cheap Trick.
4) On the Outside - A Dean penned tune that will appeal to anyone who felt
they never quite fit in. Not in a big way, just in a way where you just
can't connect with people.
You can't relate to anything they say and you have nothing in common.
We've all been there.
5) The Image - A homage to pop idol. How long will the nation be content
with this watered down, safe, packaged product. Why are we all so brain
dead to not see that we are being force fed and told to like something
that is devoid of any passion, truth, integrity, soul and reality.
How long will this go on for? We dread to think where we will be in 50
years if this current trend continues. Where is the danger? Where is the
music that makes you wanna stand up and be counted?
6) Million Miles an Hour - A love song. A drunks love song. About being 24
and still living in never never land, while everyone around you is growing
up, getting lives, and moving away. We still plough through, the same as
when we were 16, and that's why we never get the girl!!
Footnote from the Mayfair Mall Crew: The B Movie Heroes are a band that we
have fondly followed for quite some time now. Never one to disappoint
their fans with their live shows, this mini album simply exudes those good
time feelings you get when you see them at the gigs.
If you enjoy a song that doesn't demand you sit down and analyze it's
content then this is a worthy addition to your collection.
All the songs on this offering are guaranteed to get you in the party mood
and raise even the grimmest of moods. |
