Hard on the
heals of British hard rockers The Tokyo Dragons are Dutch band Bullet,
like The Tokyo Dragons, Bullet are the new old school of heavy rock.
The band have
many influences and all are present on this debut release, the likes of
WASP, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Krokus and Black Sabbath to name a few.
The album opens
up with ‘Midnight Riders (Riding Free)’ and immediately the vocals of Hell
Hofer give you that familiar feeling, sounding like a mix between Mark
Storace and Udo. This is pure 80's hard rock like your mother used to
know.
The band takes
you back to the denim and leather days when men didn’t feel ashamed to
embroider their own denim jacket with their favourite bands logo (ah those
were the days!).
The album
continues with ‘Turn It Up Loud’ and ‘Heading For The Top’, two tracks
that will definitely have your heads bobbing.
The band maybe a
little cliché at times but it's good time rock n' roll the way it used to
be.
‘Rambling Man’
and ‘Hard Luck Lady are full of AC/DC style riffs, tracks that will have
you banging your heads no end. The Judas Priest influence is very
apparent on ‘Speeding In The Night’ with a little Saxon thrown in, just
for balance.
It's hard not to
find a track on this album that doesn’t remind me of some band or another.
But this isn't a bad thing because as a reviewer as it makes my job a
whole lot easier to bring across just what the band sound has going for
it. Take for example ‘One Deal With The Devil’, this is most
definitely Rogue Male in all but name.
This is
definitely an album for fans of good old heavy metal and shouldn’t be
dismissed as old hat, but rather a new hat on an experienced head. |
