Since their incarnation back in 2004 Dear Superstar have set stages alight with their hard hitting sleaze driven guitar fuelled full on Rock N' Roll. Now in 2008 after lengthy touring the band have returned to the studio for their new album Heartless, an album that is sure to propel the band into the limelight with its infectious grooves and feisty licks. The album opens up with ‘Brink Of Destruction’, an instantly likeable opener with its great slung down guitar vibe. You can recognise the production skills of Romesh Dodangoda instantly as it has that Funeral For A Friend / Bullet For My Valentine style production that will surely meet with instant approval of the younger audience. This instant hit album continues with ‘Brothers In Blood’, another splendid riff filled high tempo rocker, but where the album stands out from the rest of the new breed rockers out there is the fantastic Metal tones of ‘Live Love Lie’ that has that Trivium feel about it. The hard hitting ‘Signposts to Bedposts’ has to be one on my favourites of the album, it's one of those Sunset Strip sleazy down n' dirty songs that’s old school Hollywood, a great little rocker. The band really go all out on this album with great little rockers like the angst filled ‘Anytime Anyplace’ and ‘Raised Voices And Confrontations’, but it's the likes of ‘Rock Bottom’ and ‘Hollywood Whore’ that will get the kids going, especially the latter is gung ho sleaze at its finest. With the album almost at a close the brakes aren’t even touched as it's full throttle rock all the way to the end, with the thumping Backyard Babies feel of ‘Diseased And Distraught’ and closing the album with ‘Can't Write A Love Song’, which leaves the listener wanting more. A great release and with the band on tour at the moment the time is right for the Dear Superstar publicity train to work overtime because this band have the talent to go a long way and fast.
