Delany
is the a new project that takes on the writings of Wolfgang
Hohlbein’s continuation of his successful fantasy novels “Chronicle
of the Immortal”. What makes this album a fascinating concept
are the vocalist’s behind it, first up David Readman of Pink Cream 69,
Davy Vain of Vain (who also co-produces the album along with Peter
Weigel) and Lana Lane, all great at what they do as individuals but
together they really bring Delany to life. What
makes a good concept piece in my opinion is that you don’t need to
know the background of the subject matter to appreciate the music behind
the album, and 'Blaze And Ashes' is such an album. The
album opens up with Readman on vocal duties for ‘Blood And Ashes’
and anyone who is familiar with Readman’s vocals will already know
what a truly talented guy he is. On this track it's Readman at his very
best, along with Tommy Rickard on drums, Jamie Scott on rhythm and lead
guitars, Volker Leson on bass and Dano Holand on rhythm guitar, all of
whom get the album off to a great start. 'Here
Comes Lonely' is where we get the first of Vain’s entries as vocalist.
This is a track that could easily be off any of the Vain albums, but its
when Lana Lane opens her account on ‘Love Tears’ that her vocals
takes the album to another level, a real touch of class as always from
Lane. The
album builds on the three vocalist strengths and really gives the album
some clarity and style. Things continue with Readman at the mike
for the hard rockin’ ‘Incarnation’ and the excellent ‘Web Over
London’. The
mystical tones of Lane are once more proven on one of my favourite
pieces of the album ‘Eternity Is Yours’. Once again Lane is
just magnificent. Her vocals have never been better soaring away
beyond the hemisphere. The
sheer glam of Davy Vain is brought to the forefront of ‘Planets
Turning’ before the magnificence of Lane is once more with ‘Shadows
On Your Heart’. A rockier track with more licks than free
lollipops inside a school playground courtesy of Scott. If
I had to pick one track from each vocalist that really hits the mark
then the one for Vain would have to be ‘Distance Of Love’, a great
rocker that even the none Vain fans will love, as for Lane you already
know of Eternity Is Yours’ and what about Readman you ask, well there
are a couple of stand out tracks that feature the Pink Cream 69 frontman
but if I had pick one then it would have to be ‘Dead Undead’,
a great rocker on which Readman shows why he’s one of my favourite
vocalists around at the moment. A real hard rock extravaganza and
with Scott’s great guitar work a great track which ever way you look
at it. The
album closes with ‘London Bridge’, a haunting track that rounds off
a very interesting album with three very different vocalists combining
to bring Wolfgang
Hohlbein’s new novel "Chronic of Immortals” to musical life …
the rumours about the mysterious case of death let both immortals Delany
and Abu Dun move to London to search for the Phantom! On an exciting and
fascinating hunt both get into traps set by a gang of street kids and
find themselves in the police’ dungeon before a huge fire sparks over
London … |
