Artist: Dezperadoz
Title: An Eye For An Eye
   Label: AFM Records

What do you get if you mix a little Spaghetti Western with a little of Jon Bon Jovi’s 'Blaze Of Glory' with a touch of Johnny Cash and a smidgen of raw tuned down guitars?  Well what you get is the outstanding multifaceted new album from Dezperadoz entitled ‘An Eye For An Eye’.

So why all the Western vibes?  Well I’ll tell you.  The album tells the story of Young Hank who in grows up in Arizona in 1881 on a farm, although the story actually starts in 1898, when Hank shots his best friend in revenge for killing a loved one and is then sentenced to death by the state!  This is his story…

Once again we see Alex Kraft (guitar/vox), Alex Weigand (bass) and Markus Kullmann (drums) reunite for this the third album, also back is Sodom’s Tom Angelripper for a guest appearance.

This quite unique Metal format that Kraft has put together mixes so many different features that the album has something for all.

The album opens up with ‘An Eye For An Eye’, a semi narrative intro where we find Young Hang in his cell waiting for the hangmans noose as his last meal is brought to him.  The slide guitars add that typical western feel and set the mood for the rest of the album as Kraft as Hank reflects on what he has done.

The album opens up proper with the thunderous metal guitars of ‘Hate’, this is a real pummelling metal assault with Kraft and Co. unleashing a metal ass kicking note one.

It's back to the Spaghetti Western feel with the opening of ‘Days Of Thunder’, but this is short lived as the booming metal again is present this time with a little Shadows Apache guitar vibe in the back ground so to keep that Western feel ever present.

‘Wild Bunch’ again stamps a definite Metal vibe on things with the streaming guitar intro before Kraft dishes out a more darkened almost Death Metal vocal which adds a grim feel to things, before another total change in direction with the excellent ‘Wild Times’ this has a that Stoner Metal feel to it with its huge bass and drums along with some terrific guitar work by Kraft again.

The next one is a real stroke of genius by Kraft as the band give the Doors classic 'Riders On The Storm' a revamp without losing any of the brilliance of the original, then it's time for Tom Angelripper to add his hefty metal vocals for the pounding ‘Hear Comes The Pain’.  This one will take those of you familiar with the bands debut album 'The Dawn Of Dying' where Angelripper was the frontman of the band.

The tempo is changed again with the mellower semi acoustic ‘Give Up’ with Kraft laying down some soulful vocals on this ballad.  ‘May Heaven Strike Me Down’ brings in that "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" whistle to open things up before Kullmann takes over with a thumping drum beat and with Kraft almost sounding like The Cults Ian Astbury on this one.

It’s back to the old west as ‘When The Circus Comes To Town’ this multi-layered track is woven with traditional metal and a touch of Vaudeville.

‘A Tooth For A Tooth’ sees us once again in the jailhouse with Hank as the slide guitars and Kraft’s semi narrative vocals tell of a condemned mans last few minutes on this earth.

The album concludes with the seminal Johnny Cash stylings of ’25 Minutes To Go’ a real tongue and cheek C&W ending to what is a quite unique album.
