'The World Is Too Big For One Lifetime' is the third studio album by die So Fluid, the band led by vocalist Grog (Feline, Kelly Osbourne Band), who is joined by Drew Richards on guitar and Al Fletcher on drums. This third opus is again an all fired up rock-o-metal spectacular which gets underway in spectacular fashion with 'Figurine', a real hard edged track to get the album started, and almost straight away Grog makes her presence felt, with one of the mightiest female vocals I've heard all year. The same power and grace is found in track two 'Mercury', a real monster that reminds me of early Hole musically, but with a more intense vocal style, then it's all change for broody 'storm'. Dark filled melodies wrapped all around this one, as it builds into a gigantic angst filled rock monster. |The title track 'The world Is Too Big For One Lifetime' again has a dark vibe around it and as the previous track, this one builds into something rather special, before the pace is picked back up again for the excellent 'Hearts Are Hollow'. This is where Grog brings a little Siouxsie Sioux into the mix, a little angst punk goes a long way as this one shows. Keeping the up-tempo feel is 'Raven', a real tub thumper from Fletcher. Again that vocal of Grog is brought to the front in the mix for this one with some great tuned down guitar licks from Richards, this is one of the highlights of the album for me, it's big, it's massive actually, a real feel of what the band are all about. The tempo is brought down a few notches on the haunting 'Themis', before it's picked up in spades with the superb 'How Vampires Kiss', another highlight of the album for me, as Grog unleashes the most angst vocal on the album so far, while Fletcher and Richard drive the rock machine that is Die So Fluid ever forward. we return to the more moody grooved metal with 'If wishes Were Bullets' and 'What A Heart IS For' before the album closes with the wonderful wall of sound that is 'Sound In Colour'. This one has a psychedelic feel to it to begin with before exploding into that wall of sound I mentioned earlier. This is my first taste of the band and I'm well impressed and would love to catch them live because in the live arena, they are really supposed to blow you away. |
