Well it's finally here, after years of hard touring and playing sometimes it's seemed pretty much none stop for Brad and the rest of the boys in Disarm, but all that hard work has finally born fruit with the release of this their debut album, ‘By Any Means Necessary’. I’ve seen the band on numerous occasions both as headliners and support acts and can truthfully say that this is a band band who give 110% on stage each and every time and are quite partial to a bit of partying after the show, where they give 120%. The bands mix of old school punk and nu-school metal and sunset sleaze takes no prisoners, think Backyard Babies meets The Clash and you won't be far wrong with the sound that the band have gone for. The album itself projects this really well as its opens up in ferocious style with ‘The River City Ransom Death Pact’, with guitarists Jamie and Brad both spewing out the licks like there’ no tomorrow. The fast and dirty feel continues with ‘Girl When Did You (Become Such A Car Crash)?', another towering anthemic mix of Metal and Punk, with Brads angst filled vocals adding to the dynamic mix of styles. It's all systems go with the title track ‘By Any Means Necessary’. This is one of my favourite tracks off the album and is where Jamie really begins to show his liking for the Scandinavian rock scene. This song is right out of the Backyard Babies / Helicopters song book. There no letting the pace falter as the full on sleaze fest continues with ‘Bark, Bite, Scream’, a little darker track which hits you like an express train out of hell. Then it's onto a track that usually ends their live shows and is one of my favourites from the band ‘Faster Faster… Kill’. This showcases perfectly the band at their very best with bassist Noddy and drummer Ant thrashing out the backbone rhythm section on this one as Jamie and Brad throw licks at each other like lightening bolts. The intensity of the band is second to none and comes across really well on the album as things continue with ‘Sirens Machines’, another all out balls to the wall guitar filled assault as Jamie once again rips up a storm, along with Noddy and Ant who power on through the track. The all guns blazing attitude of the band just keeps coming with the hard hitting ‘She’s My Disease’ and the thumping anti establishment anthem ‘This Is Not A Pop Song’. Another highlight of this album has to be ‘Bring Me The Head Of Dorothy Gale’, all out sleaze metal with its great chorus that just invites audience participation when played live, but this is just one of the many highlights on a quite outstanding debut from the Mexborough boys. As they continue to pull no punches with ‘Resistance’, another 100mph raucous anthem and the sublime ‘Bullets And Blasphemy’, with its feedback intro then it's all out rock attitude. The
album closes with ‘Too Much Is Never Enough’, which should be the
bands motto as this all out full speed ahead album comes to a close.
If you think this album is full on then you check out the band live as
they are an all out ROCK N' ROLL MACHINE that take no prisoners. |
