Another Swedish band hot off the press at Lion Music are Dogpound, who have followed their two previous albums ‘Hellburn’ and ‘A Night In The Gutter’ with another dose of hard rocking Melodic Metal of the highest calibre. For those of you unfamiliar with the band they are Hendrik "Hea" Andersson on vocals, Micke Dahlqvist on guitar, Figge Danielsson on bass and completing the line-up Calle “Tuka” Boman on drums. Things get underway with emphatic style with ‘My Own Sin’, which instantly gets you hooked with the vocals of Andersson being the focal point of the track as he unleashes his monster vocals on the track, backed by the riff spewn guitars of Dahlqvist, no intros here!, it's straight down to meat and bones, no holds barred Melodic Metal. The album continues to impress with ‘Glass Jar’, a track that is more straight up hard rock than metal with Andersson once again sounding superb. This one is definite single material. The quality just keeps on coming as ‘Born A Winner’ is unleashed, this is where Dahlqvist really comes into his own with some superlative licks with Danielsson and Boman providing the backbone rhythm section and Andersson providing the power and grace of his vocals. Just as I was about the announce 'Born A Winner’ as my favourite track of the album so far, the heat is turned up once more with the excellent ‘Human Hologram’, with Dahlqvist leading the way for Andersson on this top notch up tempo rocker. The tempo is kept going with ‘Dead And Gone’ another riff spewn piece that just oozes class. This is continued with ‘Not Welcome Here’ and the thumping tones of the excellent hard rocker ‘Blind’ before things slow down just a touch with the gentle refrains of ‘One’, a track that will have the Melodic Rock crowd in raptures at its sheer excellence. But it’s the riff filled harder tracks that really make this album for me, as things continue along that path with another superb slab of guitar fuelled Melodic Metal in the form of ‘Other War Around’ and its equally superb ‘In A Life’, then the heat is really turned up on another of my personal favourites ‘Away From Me’. I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this album from beginning to end, it just defies logic how this band haven’t reached the dizzy heights of international stardom as the album continues to impress as each track unfolds and the splendour just keeps on coming. The album comes to a close with the riff spewn ‘Undivided’ and the majestic ‘You And Me’, before finishing off with ‘Rain Must Fall’ With an album so full of great tracks it's great not to be able to pick out just one outstanding track but many, which makes me wonder how the whole Melodic Rock/Metal scene isn’t again a high profile genre with bands like Dogpound producing the goods time and time again and especially with this, their finest hour.
