With
the influx of Nu-metal on the music scene at the minute, it makes a
change to hear a young band not automatically jumping on the band wagon
and copying the trends of the youth of today.
Dogtide are a lively young trio from the heart of the North East of
England who play what they believe to be true rock music and I for one
have to agree. Forget the attitudes, forget the Bronx, this is what
really matters, proper metal and quite well done at that.
This self financed EP shows what talented musicians these guys really
are. The six tracks cover a wide range of musical influences, you can
hear definite Metallica and Rage Against The Machine bass lines mixed
with Sound Garden melodies and vocals. The result is rock the way you
want to hear it. Play it loud the way it was meant to be. Feel the fury,
feel the force, and let your head thrust about furiously as the songs
twist and turn inside your head, taking you into a tuneful madness of
their own.
Recorded in only 6 hours because of their financial limitations, this
six track EP, though it may need a bit of polishing here and there,
comes across well. From the gentle opening harmonies of 'Synthetic' to
the emotionally charged 'Vent', I think with the right backing and a
little more studio time this is one band that have the potential to go a
long way in a very short space of time.
The North East could have the next big thing if only the music gods will
allow it and the breed of Nu-metal bands slowly comes to a halt as we've
all hoped for a while now. First print of this release is already sold
out, so if you get the chance to get a copy off a later batch grab it
while you can. Remember all the bands that are currently being played in
the clubs right now all started out at grass roots stage, some had a lot
of talent, some had a lot of luck. Dogtide have the talent in bucket
loads so fingers crossed they get that luck as well.
What you have here is nigh on 23 minutes of the kind of rock you've been
shouting out for. The world of rock needs more bands like Dogtide to
show us their is life after Nu-metal.
