Well it's 2009 and the City is in tatters, money is harder to get hold of than decent B. Celebs for this years Celebrity Big Brother. But fear not, we here at the Mayfair Mall are gonna give you some sound financial advice on how to spend your hard earned cash, and if your wondering what albums to buy with those gift vouchers you received off your auntie who doesn’t know what to get the rocker in the family, then here’s the best suggestion you'll get all year. The first release of the year and one dear to my heart is Doro’s latest metal assault ‘Fear No Evil’, which once again sees the Metal Queen unleash a hard rock album on to the unsuspecting public. Since her departure from Warlock Doro Pesch has carved out her very own notch in this predominantly male Heavy Metal genre and has built up a following that rivals many all male bands. Anyone who is familiar with Doro’s music knows what to expect from her albums and 'Fear No Evil' is yet another slice of classic Pesch. It's big rhythms, big riffs and that unmistakable big vocal from the little lady herself. The album gets underway in true Doro style with ‘Night Of The Warlock’. After the intro it's Doro all the way with huge guitars and powerful pounding rhythms, all wrapped in Doro’s metal vocal. It's METAL all the way with ‘Running From The Devil’, again it's Doro at her best everyone's favourite Metal Queen unleashes that uncompromising Metal vocal. This is a towering anthem that has one of the best rhythm sections I’ve heard for a while, whilst the guitar playing of powers relentlessly through the track. One track in particular that is classic Doro through and through is ‘Celebrate’, as she salutes the music we love in true Doro style, then it's pedal to the metal for the titanic overture ‘Caught In A Battle’, a real powerhouse track and one of the heaviest on the album. As the guns die down on the intro its heavy guitars and a double-kick drums thunderstorm that gets this one started before the Metal Queen comes into her own with that formidable vocal once more. ‘Herzblut’ shows the other more melodic tone of Doro. Although this song is sung totally in German and sometimes the German language is regarded as harsh, here Doro makes it sound mellow and almost serene, and with the added soaring guitar work of Joe Taylor this track is one of my personal favourites from the album. We're
back to the towering metal anthem ‘On The Run’ before the more
gentile metal ballad the magnificent ‘Walking With Angels’, where
Doro duets with Tarja for this gentle side of the Metal Queen that will
melt the hardest of Heavy Metal hearts, before turning up the heat once
more with ‘I Lay My Head’ and 'Long Lost My Love’. The album
closes with the magnificent haunting metal tones of ‘25 Years’ and
rounds off another superb album from the Metal Queen and long may she
reign for another 25 years!
