When it comes to most influential bands of the 20th century none can claim the crown more than US Progressive Rock gods Dream Theater. Although their name may not be bandied about on MTV or the popular radio stations, in the Progressive Rock and Metal community the band are seen by many as demi-gods in their own right. The bands latest release takes a tongue and cheek swing at the music business of today with the title ‘Greatest Hit (... and 21 other pretty cool songs). As the title refers to the one and only major radio hit ‘Pull Me Under’, but despite this fact the band have released some of the most influential albums of the genre and many have followed their precedence and brought the whole Progressive Metal and Rock to a worldwide audience. This two disc set contains some 22 tracks that have been split into two discs of 11 tracks, one containing what is called The Dark Side and the second being The Light Side. What you get on this two album set are some of the bands finest moments together with a few surprises along the way, including the remixed versions of ‘Pull Me Under’, ‘Take The Time’ and single edit version of ‘Lie’ and ‘ Home’, along with the excellent ‘Misunderstood’, as well as the timeless classics ‘As I Am’ and ‘Peruvian Skies’ ... and that’s just the first disc! Disc
two is equally mouth watering as the more melodic side of the band is
brought to you with the 2007 remixed version of ‘Another Day’ and
the B-side of the Live single ‘To Live Forever’, as well as the
single edit version of ‘Solitary Shell’. Again there is so
much on offer with this double album that will delight the fans and be a
worthy addition to their collections. Even if you've just heard
one or two tracks from the band, this is a great introduction to one of
the more high ranking band in the whole Progressive arena, and to be
honest this album could have been a four or five disc collection, such
is the high quality of the bands back catalogue. |
