The London based four piece Drugdealer Cheerleader have taken the underground scene by storm with their infectious sleaze punk sound. With influences as wide as T-Rex, The Stooges, New York Dolls, U2, 80's hair metal and just a touch of 90's grunge, this eclectic mix has given the band that quite unique of all qualities in the business today, their own sound. Founded by frontman Hilda and drummer Ringo (familiar) the pair went through a string of bands before uniting with one goal to rock, and when they came across guitarist Neil the pieces of their rock n' roll jigsaw began to take shape. The final piece of the puzzle came in the from of bassist Liam and with that Drugdealer Cheerleader became into being. The bands debut release is a real breath of fresh air as the foursome bring their unique sound to an over hyped business of one single hit wonders, with albums so similar that when you listen to the radio these days, you have to wait till the DJ announces the artist at the end of the song to know which cloned band you were listening to. The
album itself mixes some fine rock moments like the hard-hitting opener
‘Fireworks’, the New York Dolls sounding ‘The Guv’nor’ and the
superb ‘Britain’s Great’. Although my personal favourite has
to be ‘Ms LaPish’, this one has some great guitar licks. |
