I’ve been sent
many a concept album in my time as Reviews Editor and their have been some
quite outstanding example of the genre but The Eruptors album ‘Bad Time To
Be Having A Good Time’ is something completely different.
Firstly the band
deliver high octane full on sleaze punk metal at 100mph with their
ambitious concept sci-fi space war spin on the whole concept theme, think
Starship Troopers with guitars instead of assault rifles.
The bands no
nonsense approach reminds me of the great days of 70’s punk where anything
went and did. This is indeed the mindset of The Eruptors as they
take you on their intergalactic speed fest.
The bands
rampaging assault begins its countdown with ‘Dawn Of The Earth’ and from
the off the stage is set for some mind-blowing rock n' roll played at
break neck speed, so much so the entire album is a mere 21 minutes 59
seconds long (hey the Ramones built a career on 1 min 30 sec songs).
The entire album
takes no prisoners from the likes of garage metal of ‘Gravelrash’ to
Backyard Babies vibe of my personal favourite ‘One Minute Decision’, with
Lightnin' Alex Lee Hooker III ripping up a three chord storm, alongside
Gary de Niro pounding out a raucous back beat and Jeff Pepsii equally
ferocious on bass and vocals.
‘Unleash The
Dogs Of War’ again lets the band run rampage with a veritable melee of
guitars and drums, and instrumental ‘Battlestar Eruptica’ is as full on as
it gets without vocals.
If you want full
on with vocals then ‘Skate Fast Die Hard’ is the track for you as the band
turn it up to 11 and really go for it in a short 1 minute 8 second burst
of mayhem.
If you want
something hard and fast and don’t want an 0898 number then check out The
Eruptors and it won't cost you £1.50 a minute.
Also be sure to
check out the great artwork on the album by Andy Tilley if you manage to
get one of the first 1000 copies with the deluxe 6-panel digi-pack and
picture CD. |
