Following their
cracking second album 'Face Of Adversity' the Manchester band return with
their EP 'Salvation', and with a change of line-up as we see Chris
Appleton joined by Adam Cropper on bass and Martin McNee on drums.
With these
line-up changes comes a new focus me thinks as I said in my review of the
'Face Of Adversity' album, the production on the album was somewhat poor,
but things have definitely be put right on this new EP as I can't fault
the production in any way.
There is
definitely a heavier more professional feel about this EP I thought 'Face
Of Adversity' was a good album barring production issues, but the work
that particularly Appleton has put into this EP will reap benefits I’m
sure.
The first of the
three tracks on the EP is in fact the title track ‘Salvation’ and
instantly anyone who picked up a copy of 'Face Of Adversity' will hear the
vast improvement in the bands overall sound, with Appleton still the main
aspect of the band with a much more coherent vocal sound. Whether
this is due to the better production or some vocal exercises, he projects
his voice more clearly on the record and more so than on 'Face Of
Adversity'.
But it's his
fanatic guitar playing that is at the helm of the entire Fury UK sound as
he shows what a talent he is straight from the off, as this slice of pure
British Heavy Metal gets the EP underway.
Things continue
with ‘Manslaughter’ another track that oozes old school metal that will
appeal to all those of you who can remember back when Britain ruled the
metal airways and showed the way for the world to follow. Again
Appleton shines as always but with McNee and Cropper equal to him with
some excellent backbone rhythm sections.
This very impressive
EP comes to a close with the Sabbath-esque guitar intro into ‘Lost In
Forever’, a track that starts off at an almost snail like pace. although
the tempo is soon brought back up as with Appleton’s guitar solo.
This is the darkest track on the EP and shows the band can mix up the
tempos and are not all guns blazing firing without aim or objective.
I do believe this incarnation of the band do have a target in mind so lets
hope 2008 brings it rewards. |
