'Medicine Man'
is the second release for Marco Paganini on his own label PaZouZou Records
and sees him once again producing another high quality album full of
Melodic Rock reverence. This release from Paganini also features
Dale Powers on guitar, Kiki Cretin on bass and Diego Rapaccietti on drums.
Opening up with
the title track ‘Medicine Man’ it's clear that Paganini’s distinct vocals
are going to be the main focus for the bands sound, with him mixing the
very melodic tones with a little hard rock on an album that will be a
welcome addition to the fans of the genre.
The more gentle
elements of the album will make this album more of a focus towards to the
older generation of rockers who will appreciate it more for the complex
guitar work of Powers and the subtle changes in tempo and the melodies
more associated with the AOR crowd.
The album does
have some more up-tempo moments like ‘The Only One’ and the more edgy
‘Stomping Grounds’. Although track of the album for me has to be the
cover of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band's ‘Faith Healer’, a track so
good they did it twice, firstly the radio edit then as a bonus track the
stone cold turkey mix which is just superb.
To be honest
there are better albums out there at the moment, but there's also a whole
lot worse as well, so if you like some easy listening AOR on a
Sunday morning after the night before then this is one for you.
This one took a
few listens to really get into but was worth it in the end. If
you're looking for a quick fix this isn’t the album for you, but if you
like me persevere with albums from time to time and you are prepared to
take your medicine, then check this one out, it will be worth it in the
end. |
