Not many people
can say they had a No.1 hit single at the tender age of 17, but that’s
just what Rick Derringer had when he was with the McCoy’s back in 1965
with ‘Hang On Sloopy’. Since then Derringer has seen fame and
fortune with numerous bands during the 70's and 80's, bands like Kiss,
Alice Cooper and Todd Rundgren to name a few, but mainly with his
collaboration with The Winter brothers Johnny and Edgar, both as a
musician and producer.
But it's
Derringers solo career that this live album really concentrates on,
recorded at Cheney Hall in Manchester, Connecticut in 2002, and includes
some of Derringers finest work.
With such a vast
back catalogue to fall back on, Derringer has managed to put together a
live set that will please even his most die hard fans, with songs from his
varying musical career from the Rock n Roll years to the Smooth Jazz and
Christian Rock of his more recent material. It’s the hits that will
perhaps please the most, songs like ‘Real American’ which was later
adopted by Hulk Hogan as his WWE entrance theme, ‘Rock and Roll Hoochie
Koo’ and the one that started the ball rolling ‘Hang On Sloopy’.
This album
captures the Derringer live show in all its glory and as the sleeve notes
of producer Jim Whitehouse says this is an album that captures ... “the
passion for the music, the virtuosity, and the synergy between the
audience and the band that Rick brings to his performance”.
This is must for
all fans of Derringer, enough said! |
