Sharp Sand is the debut single from Reculver a band formed by Luke
Purdie and his cousin Si. The cousins are joined by drummer Jarrett (long
time friend and collaborator) and bassist Jimi August who together have
put together a very impressive sound that is very hard hitting with out
being to overpowering.
The tracks themselves were recorded at Ray Davies
Klonk Studio where the band just set up plugged in and played and the
resulting tracks have been taken from those sessions.
The first track
'Sharp Sand' is great way to introduce the band to the world with its
driving guitars and thunderous rhythm section, my only complaint is the
length of the track as your just getting into it its over. The second
track 'We Are The People' is another fine track that just oozes class with
its catchy licks and equally catchy chorus.
'Wake Up Call' takes the tempo
down a notch with its almost acoustic start but soon picks up and hits you
from behind when you least expect it as the band give their all in the
chorus section, a real classy track. 'The Climb' lets the band show their
tender side with this highly emotional track that once again starts off at
a slower pace but you can feel the track building up to a crescendo of
emotions.
The final track 'Keep Walking' is more of a bluesy rock track
that once again the guitars drive the track and the vocals just meander
along with ease as your washed away by the sheer brilliance of the
track.
All in all if this is the quality of the music and song-writing
abilities of the band then keep an eye out for them, as they will
certainly be a force to be reckoned with.
