'Between Force And Fate' is the second album from Finnish band Velcra and
sees the band once again tear down the barriers between rock and
electronic dance music and fuse the two together in one awe inspiring
sound that can only be described as Gregarious Metal. If you can imagine a
collaboration between the likes of Rob Zombie and the Prodigy, and throw in
a female vocalist, the resulting incarnation would be Velcra.
'Between
Force and Fate' opens up with the hard hitting 'War Is Peace' and
immediately you're throw into the diverse world of Velcra. As the intro into
the first track suggests ... girls and boys are coming out to play ...
and play they do. This mix of techno and rock may not be to everyone
tastes, but then what is.
The second track 'Water Is Getting High' is a little
easier on the musical pallet, but still has the hard hitting edge that
grabs a hold of your senses and won't let go, until the sound has totally
taken control of you, and the music becomes your master.
'Our Will Against
Their Will' is more of the same with a definite White Zombie feel as you
find yourself being taken over by the sheer ferocity and rawness of the
music.
Other tracks that stand out are the mesmerizing 'I Cant Tell The
Sun From The Moon', and the almost techno pop the oddly titled 'The Bong
Song'. Both tracks find the band in a more mellower vain.
If I had to pick
my favourite track off the album then it would have to be 'Hotel Alcatraz'
with its punchy vocals and pounding beat, all making this the standout track on
the album for me.
Overall the rawness and experimental sound that the band
have put together for their second release may not be commercially
expectable and frowned upon my many but the new generation of young kids
out there will love it.
