It's official
Rock Is back and back with a-Vengeance. Dutch hard rockers Vengeance are
back and ready to rumble with their new release ‘Back In The Ring’.
With a little
help from some old friends the band are ready to rock once more. The
nucleus of the band remains as Leon Goewie on vocals, Barend Courbois on
bass, Hans In 'T Zandt on drums, and Peter Bourbon on guitar, together
with guest appearances by Casanova's Michael Voss and Michael Eurich,
Wolf Hoffman, Matt Singer and a very special appearance by original and
founding member Arjen Lucassen on guitar.
The album opens
up with the title track ‘Back In The Ring’ and straight away the mindset
of the band is set out with a big guitar sound and great vocals from
Goewie.
The album
continues in a similar vein with ‘No Money’, another great rocker of a
track that mixes early Bon Scott AC/DC, with a little Helix thrown in for
good measure, great stuff.
The album goes
from strength to strength with ‘Mind Over Matter’ with Wolf Hoffmann
ripping out the riffs on this one. The track may be a touch slower
than the previous tracks but it still rocks big style.
‘Captain
Moonlight’ is a track that features former band member Arjen Lucassen on
lead guitar and once again shows a more gentler side of the band.
Although the guitars of Lucassen that really are the star of this track,
with the intricate melodies being simply superb.
The rock keeps
on coming with the guitar-fuelled tracks ‘Holy Water’ and ‘Bad Attitude’.
One of my favourite tracks on the album has to be ‘Had Enough’ with its
groove filled chorus and rich guitar sound. The song that came a close
second for favourite track was ‘Now And Then’ another track that features
a rich guitar sound and great vocals from Goewie.
Another track
that reminds me of old school AC/DC is ‘Cowboy Song’, a real good time
song that I’m sure the band had a lot of fun with.
Although the
cover suggests there are 11 tracks on the album when you put it into your
CD player it comes up with only ten tracks, but if you wait a few moments
after the riff laden ‘Rip It Off’ with Michael Eurich on drums, the final
song ‘Evelyn’ is there and finishes off the album with a gentle semi
acoustic ballad.
An album full of good time rock n' roll like it
used to be. |
