With a core band
consisting of Jeff Richman on rhythm guitar, Luis Conte on percussion, Abe
Laboriel on bass guitar, Dave Weckl on drums, and Peter Wolf on keyboards,
this is a worthy base for any band. But, to then bring in the likes
of Vinnie Moore, Eric Gales, Frank Gambale, Albert Lee, Robben Ford, Eric
Johnson, Pat Martino, Mike Stern and Coco Montoya as well, you certainly
have the makings of a supergroup in whatever concoction you might come up
with. So was thoughts behind Jeff Richman who brought together each
of these ten guitar players to record with the base band, to pay tribute
in their own particular style to one of foremost names in guitar music
today, the one and only Carlos Santana.
Santana is one
of the few guitar players in the world whose style is instantly
recognisable. He ranks alongside the likes of Brian May, Malmsteen
and Vie as one of the guitar players, all the other guitar players simply
want to be.
This tribute to
Santana covers the vast array of his work and is contemporary jazz/
fusion, rock and blues guitar at its finest, with each differing guitar
style Richman has made sure that each arrangement doesn’t falter the
Santana style, but enhances what is a very prominent style.
This is a must
for not only all the fans of the guitarists involved, but it's also a must
for Santana fans who can make their own judgements on these differing
versions of the classic Santana sound. Plus of course guitar players
world wide should give this a listen and hear the guitar players from
varying genres pay tribute this living legend. |
