Danish
band Volbeat emerged from the ashes of one of Denmark's premier metal acts
Dominus. After they ceased to be, Michael Poulsen formed Volbeat back in
2001. Their demo 'Beat The Meat' received favourable reviews in Europe. The band have now put
together their debut album 'The Strength/The Sound/The
Music'.
Described
in the bands bio as Metallica meets Coldplay, meets Type O Negative, meets
Marilyn Manson, Meets Soulfly, you might be left a little confused by the
whole album before you even listen to it.
I
understand where they are coming from with the Metallica and Soulfly
references, but Coldplay I don’t think so. Type O Negative maybe in places
and Manson just a touch. But what is noticeable about the Volbeat sound
that it is very unique and very now.
The razor
sharp guitars and the powerhouse vocals of Poulsen really make this album
from the onset its power all the way. From the opening track 'Caroline
Leaving' your senses are pounded and battered from all quarters from the
thunderous drums to the thrashing bass and the razor edged guitar riffs.
The album
is full of monstrous heavy tracks that deviate very little from track to
track and this could be the only down side of the album its constantly at
one pace, full on in your face metal.
But the
album itself is a decent debut release and is a solid foundation on which
they can build and I'm sure they will go along way. |
