The undoubted
king of Sleaze Horror Goth has to be the one and only Wednesday 13 who
returns with his most intense and forthright album to date ‘Skeletons’ as
the album takes a personal tone as Wednesday delves into his personal
conflicts with depression and his life past, present and future and the
result is without a doubt his strongest album to date.
The album gets
underway in typical Wednesday 13 style with a gothic sleaze romp entitled
‘Scream Baby Scream’ and from this point there is no turning back with its
raw guitars and Wednesday’s unmistakable vocal style, this could only be
one artist and one artist only.
The album
continues its sleazy path with the tongue and cheek anthem ‘Not Another
Teenage Anthem’. This is dark glam at its finest and can see this
one really getting plenty of air play at the Goth disco’s and night clubs
around the country.
The pace is
picked up rather more with the angst filled ‘Gimme Gimme Bloodshed’ this
is a right hell yeh track, as after a few drinks you will be giving it the
horns and shouting "HELL YEH!!!" when you hear this one, such is the
brutality and vigour of the track short, fast and gritty.
‘From Here To
The Hearse’ with its grinding guitars and Wednesday’s vocals make this one
of my favourite tracks off the album, it's very Murderdolls and I for one
just love the Murderdolls.
The album does
have its much darker moments though as ‘Put Your Death Mask On’ depicts
Wednesday's journey from Hollywood to Hell, together with the equally dark
title track ‘Skeletons’, with its Manson like twists and turns of
melancholy.
There is a
complete mood shift with the down beat tones of ‘My Demise’, a truly dark
and mood ridden outlook on celebrity death culture. As the lyrics
say ... “the crowd goes wild at my demise”.
The tempo and
mood is soon brought back up again with ‘With Friends Like These’ as its
back to the tuned down guitars and those harsh unmistakable vocals, then
it's all guns blazing for ‘No Rabbit In The Hat’ and the equally fantastic
‘All American Massacre’, as Wednesday raises a blood stained Stars &
Stripes aloft with this crunching filled spectacle.
The surprise of
the album has to be the final track ‘Dead Carolina’ as Wednesday shows his
Melodic side with this one. It’s still as dark as night but with a
melody and more sedate guitar that what has gone before and rounds off
what is a fine release. If you like me were waiting for another
Murderdolls album then this one will surely fill the gap till that much
anticipated release sees the light of day. |
