Wet Animal are a band that
were formed by former Trouble guitarist Rick Wartell, along with
singer/guitarist Shane Pasqualla, who together have taken created this
quiet outstanding album.
With the rise in doom laden
metal and the up surge in what I like to call Evil Dead style vocal bands,
it's great to hear a band that can put together big vocals and masterful
guitar riffs without going to extremes.
The heavy bass lines that
were familiar with Trouble are still a big feature in the sound of Wet
Animal but they have been matched with great vocals and guitars.
The album opens up with
'Soul Alone' a track that is a prime example of the heavy bass used
throughout the album but the vocals of Pasqualla make the track for me and
the guitars are never overstated.
'Lost In My Head' is a much
more guitar-orientated track and the bass takes a back seat as Wartell
does what he does best and just rips up riff after monstrous riff.
The third track 'Outside A
Hole' is more of the same huge guitar but with Pasqualla making his mark
on the track with some of the most powerful vocals on the album.
'Left Behind' see the pace
slow down a touch with its semi acoustic sound it is the closest thing to
a power ballad that you'll get on the album and breaks up the album
nicely.
'Don't Put Me Down'
continues on from 'Left Behind' and there seems to be no break between the
two tracks as they simply merge together seamlessly.
'Fade Away' has to be my
favourite track off the album, as it’s the most melodic track on the album,
and its understated guitars make way for the vocal talents of Pasqualla to
shine.
The entire album is a joy to
listen to as each track unfolds before you your just carried away on a
magical carpet ride that is Wet Animal. |
