Band: When Gravity Fails
Title: When Gravity Fails
Label:  Astro:Nought Recordings

When Gravity Fails is the new quintet featuring one time Cortizone big gun Nick Emery, who since Cortizones demise back in 2003, has been looking out for the right people to carry on his musical legacy.  The resulting album it shows there is indeed life after the big bang.

Joining Nick is the very capable Ivan Fegan on vocals, Alex Mackie and Dave Penny on guitars, and Darren Bullis on the drums.  Together they have put together an album that is a mix of modern day grunge rock.  Think Sound Garden with a touch of Velvet Revolver and you get the gist of the sort of sound When Gravity Falls are producing.

This mini album opens up with the storming ‘Headlight’ that is a perfect opener as it instantly gives you a feel for the bands mind-set.

‘Light Of Day’ is a more guitar-orientated track that is full of varying melody changes and just ebbs and flows. ‘Bitter’ is a more emotional track that hits hard and leaves you scared on the inside.

Things slow down a little with ‘The Enemy’ which breaks up the album nicely before the rockier ‘Adored’ and the somber ‘New Tricks For Old Dogs’ that definitely has that Sound Garden feel to it.  The final track ‘Debutante’ builds up from humble beginnings into a monstrous track and is my favourite track on the album.

To sum up this is an impressive debut by the band and hopefully they will be snapped up by a major label soon and bring this sound to the masses.
