Band: WildKard
Title: Megalomania
Label: Escape Music

Former Kick members Chris Jones, Mikey J. and Nick Workman are back and under a new moniker ‘WildKard’, which sees the trio eventually bring to light their 'The Zero Hour Project' album under the new title 'Megalomania'.

Joining the trio on this remixed version of the album are guest musicians Jimbo Makelainen on drums, Jaakko Niitemaa on lead guitar and Jonne Valtonen, Steve Newman and Olli Cunningham on keyboards, which was recorded and remixed by Timo Haanpaa.

The album itself is pure Melodic Hard Rock of the highest quality and although the songs are now more than 10 years old, they sound new and fresh and worthy of any of the Kick albums.  Those of you who already have said albums will find some tracks familiar as some were used by Kick as Japanese B-sides.

The album gets underway with ‘Falling Down’ and instantly your transported to a more familiar place where Melodic Rock ruled the airwaves and was readily available to the masses. This excellent opener paves the way for the rest of the album with its massive keyboards, stunning guitar work and Workman’s brilliant vocals.

Things continue with the same vigour on ‘All I Have’, another keyboard infused track and a huge piece of old school British Melodic Hard Rock but with a more up to date edge courtesy of Haanpaa’s mixing talent.

The tempo slows down a touch with ‘End Of The World’, a more guitar orientated track.  The tempo soon picks up again with ‘7 Days’ which brings the keyboards back to the forefront of the whole WildKard sound.  What Melodic Rock album wouldn’t be complete without a ballad and this album is no different as the excellent ‘Whispers In The Dark’ is next.  A track on which Workman makes his presents felt with his finest vocal performance on the album featured on this track.

The mellower tones continue with ‘Wake Me Up When It's Over’, the brilliant ‘Something Strange’, and the equally superb ‘When Everything Has Changed’, all excellent examples of pure Melodic Rock at its finest.

Things get a little more rockier with the guitar and keyboard rich ‘Letting Go’ before the album closes with ‘Right Here By My Side’.  Both of which round off an album that stands up there with many of the best new releases over the past couple of years.  Not bad for an album that was originally intended for release back in the early nineties!
