'Follow
Me' is the new release from Italian prog metal
band Wonderland, this is the bands second full
length album and what an album! From the
first listen this album has really impressed me as it mixes the prog metal
sound with just a hint of electro Italian trance pop. A
strange mix that works wonderfully well.
The album opens up with ‘Last Time My Memory’,
a track that starts off with some mellow piano then gradually builds into
a power house track with the vocals of Alexx Hall shining through.
His voice lends itself to the genre wonderfully well.
He has such an outstanding vocal talent that
simply goes from strength to strength as each track
unfolds.
The album continues with ‘The Call Of The Dawn’ another
bombastic track with a pounding drumbeat,
with those amazing vocals
once again combined with some monstrous guitar
riffs.
Things take a gentler turn with the ballad like
'Call My Name', before things
pick up once more with 'Eternally'.
The video of this particular
track can also be found
on the CD for you viewing pleasure.
'Raise
Your Wings' is one of my favourite tracks on the
album with its soaring keyboards and racing drumbeat,
a great track to lose yourself in.
The band shows their tender side once again with the
haunting 'Winter Silence',
a masterpiece of production and arrangement.
The synthesizer driven 'No
Resurrection' is next and mixes the more
traditional power metal, with the modern
electronic sound that bands of the genre seem to be edging more towards
these days. Yet another superb track!
The haunting vocals of Hall are at their peak on
'Follow Me'. Another
gentle track that paves the way for what is my overall
favourite track 'The
Promise', which simply
oozes majesty and pomp.
The album closes with 'Hell
And Heaven', a track that only has six lines of
lyrics, even though Alexx’s vocals manage to
make those six lines seem eternal.
This has to be one of the most impressive albums I’ve
heard for quite a while and one that I will continue playing until an
album of equal quality comes along.
This album isn't just a
blessing, it's a godsend to my ears. |
