This is the second demo EP I have received from this band. In all honesty
I have to admit after hearing such an impressive offering the first time,
I didn't think they'd be able to match it with a follow up. Having been
totally blown away with the first demo they sent, and knowing it was done
by an unsigned band, I honestly thought it would be just a lucky fluke.
So here I sit today ecstatic to be able to confirm it wasn't just a lucky
fluke. These guys have so much talent and then some. The Innocence EP
offers the listener a very rich sounding abundance of Classic Rock/Melodic
Hard Rock tracks.
Every now and again you come across a band who's songs make your spine
tingle with excitement, The Xenith Sound are one of those bands. Their
approach to their music is surprisingly mature coming from such tender
young things. But it is their classical rock approach to the way they
deliver the songs that will impress the end of the market that demands
quality not quantity from new artists.
Totally ignoring the current trend of mass produced bands to churn out
'commercialized fodder' to the masses, the band instead insist on creating
a musically enriched product that brings forth a welcome change to ears
such as mine. I make no apologies for the fact that I loved this CD from
the very first time I played it. It's solidly written and well executed
and is a pleasure to listen to. This band have used their god given
talents to produce something worthy of much bigger ponds than the one they
are swimming in at the moment.
Quite what age group the band see themselves appealing to I don't know.
But by listening to these songs I would say it's more likely going to be
the 25 and over crowd that they are going to win over if they keep heading
in this direction. Although all four songs are all technically very
different, if I had to draw comparisons to anyone else then it would be
Mostly Autumn and Pink Floyd with their funkier more upbeat material.
Although I wouldn't be far off the mark to say they would also appeal to
the Audioslave (listen to 'Beautiful' and you'll know what I mean).
There's plenty on here to simultaneously both excite and enthral the
listener.
The production on this particular EP is just another example of what sets
this band aside from a lot of the both signed and unsigned bands around
right now. If only every band could have production like this! I can think
of at least 3 bands in the last year who have delivered debut albums
through major-ish record labels only to be let down by the production and
have their songs fall flat on their faces. Guys it's not just about
talent, it's about composition and production and this is something that
The Xenith Sound seem to have grasped very firmly right from the start.
Get the songs right, practice till it sounds perfect, then get some studio
to reproduce them in all it's glory. |
