Well it's here, the second Eden’s Curse album and we didn’t have too long to wait either from one the finest bands to emerge over the past few years. This album throws a straight two fingers up at those critics who said the band couldn’t follow up the success of the their self titled debut with the same high quality, so here’s to those doubters NAH NAH NA NAH NAH! Again the band have come out fighting on this new album as Paul Logue, Michael Eden, Pete Newdeck, Thorsten Koehne and Ferdy Doernberg have put together a Melodic Metal sensation, with the Curse Choir of Doogie White and Carsten Schulz returning along with Tony Harnell, who provides backing vocals on the entire album. The album opens up with the 'Reign of Terror' intro and as the bullets fade into the distance the album really gets underway with ‘Masquerade Ball’ and instantly there’s no doubt the band have returned with a monster of an album, with Eden really showing off his powerhouse vocals on this opener, along with the tremendous guitar work of Koehne. The album continues great guns with ‘Angels And Demons’ where Eden is joined by Pamela Moore of Queensryche’s Mindcrime albums and together they unite is Metal harmony for this great track. Koehne gets things underway in his own impeccable style and throughout the track along with the soar-away keys of Doernberg just adding to this spectacular song. The album goes from strength to strength with the excellent ‘Just Like Judas’, another great lick filled assault by Doernberg and this time the rhythm section of Logue and Newdeck really make their presence felt on this one, as Newdeck punishes the skins with some style, while Logue adds his four string might to things. The band show off their more gentle melodic side with the excellent ‘Sail Away’. This is where Eden shines for me, his vocals where made for this sort of song, as well as the more heavier material. And speaking of the heavier stuff it's all guns blazing once again for ‘Lost In Wonderland’, a real corker of a track as is the next on the anthemic ‘West Wind Blows’, with the guitars of Koehne rising above everything in true Melodic Metal style. With Koehne really pulling out all the stops on this album he continues to impress on the tracks ‘Signs Of Your Life’, ‘Ravens Revenge’, whilst the keyboard skills of Doernberg shine bright on one of my favourite tracks on the album, the marvellous ‘Man Against The World’. Another slice of kick-ass Melodic Metal comes our way in the shape of ‘Lost Soul’, before the walls are simply blow down with ‘Games People Play’, as Eden shows what a great set of pipes he has as he simply excels on this up-tempo rocker. The album closes with ‘Ride The Storm’, a really great punchy ending to what is without a doubt a superb release. When
you look at the promotion photos of the band they look like they should
be part of "Ross Kemp On Gangs", but believe me, this is a
band that will kick anybodies ass in the world of Melodic Metal today
musically. |
