Artist: Electric Outlet
   Title: On!
   Label: Lion Music

Electric Outlet is the first of two instrumental albums released by Lion Music this month, both visionary and both very different.

First up for your delectation is Electric Outlet who feature Marcus Deml, who has played with the likes of Saga, Bobby Kimball and Kingdom Come, as well as with his own project Errorhead.  Marcus also recently won an Award from "Guitar Player" magazine for coming second in Guitar Player's Guitar Hero 2005 competition, receiving his second place award from none other than Joe Satriani and Steve Lukather.

Also joining him on this album is former Errorhead project partner bassist Frank Itt. The two of them are joined by renowned studio keyboardist Tom Aeschbacher and Ralf Gustke who helps complete the line-up perfectly.  Gustke who has over the years played with Xavier Naidoo, Sohne Mannheims, and most notably Chaka Khan.

With this album the foursome have set out to bring some balance to an unforgiving world.  This album is filled to the brim with totally chilled out, not too intense musical vibes that have quite a 70’s nostalgia feel to them.

The album opens up with ‘Comprendes’ and straight away you know where the band is coming from.  The exuberated keys of Aeschbacher and the mystic rhythms of Deml's guitars really make this track.

The same can be said of the next track ‘Propellerhead’, although this time it's the funk ridden bass lines of Itt and the jazzed up drums of Gustke, that give it that Shaft feel.  The strangely titled ‘Odd Garage’ is probably the most laid back track on the entire album.  It’s a track that must be played in a darkened room with the headphones on and as you lay back feel those cosmic waves wash over you.  You really will feel totally at peace with the world and all your troubles will just seem just miniscule in the great scheme of life after this.

Things are turned up a notch with ‘We Need A Plan’, while still in keeping with the overall feel of the album.  This track again features heavily the keys of Aeschbacher.  Then the band go electro funk with the next couple of tracks ‘Wanna Energy’, which can only be described as the intro into ‘Tekky’, a track bursting at the seams with funky bass lines and soaring guitars.

The final three tracks are more contemporary pieces, firstly the Satriani styled 'Gold III', followed by the another the short narrative intro ‘Miles Ahead’, which leads into the pop jazz of ‘Miles Away’.

This may be a little too mellow for some tastes but as chill out albums go this is first rate.
