The
whole Gothic Metal genre has taken quite a side step to the Progressive
and Power Metal genres over past year, but one band who are about to
revive that whole genre are Eli, who fronted by Eliza Pezzuto are about
to sway the world back the more Symphonic style of rock that hailed the
likes of Within Temptation and Evanescence. This
is the bands debut release and is sure to make a household name of
Pezzuto, who is just an outstanding vocal talent. As
the album unfolds this haunting female vocals will takeover your every
sinew and possess your very soul as the opener ‘To Slowly Fade Away’
gets this superb album underway. The
haunting mesmerizing melodies continue with ‘Turn This World Around’
and the quite magnificent ‘Welcome To My Dream World’, both songs
featuring heavily orchestrations that always give Gothic Metal that
extra degree of atmosphere and magical mystic aura. I
can't say how much the voice of Pezzuto drives the air of mystery around
the album as the likes of ‘Back To Your Grace’ and my personal
favourite ‘For Mother Earth’ show in such abundance. This lady
is simply enchanting. That’s the only word for it. It's
quite easy to hear why Lars Eric Mattsson was so taken aback by the
voice of Eli and it was his vision to put this album together with her,
so the whole world could hear this quite extraordinary talent. The album continues to impress as every new track unfolds something new. ‘Leave Me Here’ has a more modern techno rock edge with more guitars and less orchestration, again adding to the albums splendour. The final three tracks are again just nectar to the ears. First up are the evocative tones of ‘My Emptiness’ and the harder edged ‘Darkness Will Fall’, before rounding off this magnificent release ‘Wondrous Stories’. A veritable chocolate box of soft centers and chewy melodies that will satisfy any music lover, no matter what genre they're into. I
feel this album would have been up there with my favourites of 2008 had
I not been involved with family matters but now that I’ve listened to
it it will be on constantly on my MP3 wherever I go in 09. |
