Artist: End Of Level Boss
   Title: Inside The Difference Engine
   Label: Exile On Mainstream Records

'Inside The Difference Engine' is the second album from British modern metallers End of Level Boss.  I use the term modern metallers as nu-breed smells of nu-metal and End of Level Boss are far from that, these guys are grind core metal with melodic undertones, with just a touch of stoner thrown in for good taste.

The album itself is full of searing heavy guitar riffs and a sometimes-darkened rhythm section all backed the very soul wrenching vocals of Harry Armstrong.

Things get underway with the oddly titled ‘Selfishnegativbemerchant’, a thunderous introduction to the album as the band unleash the full ferocity of their sound onto the unsuspecting listener, with the tuned down guitar sound mixed with Armstrong’s relentless vocals make for some heady stoner metal.

The album continues with the band displaying their darker side with the mood infested ‘Mr Dinosaur Is Lost’, a deeply, darker and sometimes mesmerizing heavy mood ridden attack on the senses.

The pace is pick up considerably with ‘Reticence’, this riff filled monster breaks stoner mould of the previous two tracks and is almost a breakneck rocker in comparison.  But the band still retain their integrity by sticking to the pounding rhythm section laid down by Ben Hallett on drums and Elenajane of bass, as quickly as the thunderous tones of 'Reticence' are faded out the album continues it heavier tract with the metal fest that is ‘Corner’.

The band crank things up with the deeply resounding bass infest that is ‘Word Have No Meaning’, before the album continues with my personal favourite ‘Instinktivitus’, another deeply dark track that captures Armstrong at his most sullen  The band take this same darker side to another level with the twisted tones of ‘End Of Line’ which is probably my least favourite track off the album as it seems to go in no direction and isn’t fitting with any other track on the album and perhaps a little to experimental for my liking.

The album closes with another bizarre track the instrumental ‘Connortations’.  A twisted mix of sound and vibes and is as weird as it is disturbing.  I’m all for bands being a little different but these last two tracks seem a little out of place compared to the rest of the album.
