Artist: Engine Of Pain
   Title: I Am Your Enemy
   Label: Lion Music

You don’t usually associate the label Lion Music with Thrash Metal, but the label has taken up the mantle by signing Engine of Pain.

The band formed by bassist Maurice Brouwers and guitarist Patrick Waltmans, have enlisted the power driven vocal talents of Nick Hameury as well as Jeop Beckers on drums, and together with new guitarist Bastiaan Kuiper joining the fold (replacing original member Ruud Banzinger who appears on the album), the band is now complete.

The album brings together the old school Thrash guitars of Waltman and Banziger together with the unmistakable growling vocals of Hameury, and together they bring the Thrash Metal sound kicking and screaming into the new millennium.

The album opens up with the title track ‘I Am Your Enemy’ and straight away the full force of the band is felt from the off, with Hameury’s vocals being the dominant feature of the opener with his unrelenting aggression.

The album continues with 'Fuel The Engine' and once again the band take the full on metal approach with this one.  This time it's the guitars of Waltmans and Banziger that really go to town on this one, while the now dominant vocals of Hameury still retain that aggressive edge.

To say the band slows things down a touch with the next one would be somewhat of a lie, with 'Circle To Circle' things are set at a slower pace than the previous tracks, but it's still Thrash by any other name, this time more along the lines of Pantera.

The pace picks up once more with the heavier guitar fuelled 'Heads Up' and 'Close To The Border', two real metalhead delights with the vocals of Hameury at their most aggressive so far.

The same aggressive tones are to be found on the rampaging guitar fest that is 'Sunshine Express'.  Things do slow down a bit at the beginning of 'At End Of The Day', but this is short lived as things once again reach break neck speed and continue on well into Slayer like 'Man of the Day'.

In the narrated intro to 'T4 - The Mass Corruption' the listener is asked ... ''are you ready for war?'' ... then all hell breaks loose as Engine of Pain reach new heights in Thrash supremacy with this almost progressive thrash track.

The album closes with 'Extreme Fakeover', a track that well and truly stamps the Thrash Metal label on the band, with the twin guitar assault and those no holds barred vocals.

If this is a true indication of the relentless aggression of the band then watch out for them dominating the Metal scene this year.  Hopefully they will get some slots on the more prestigious metal festivals this year and really show what the can do live.
