Fronted
by ex-Domain member Carsten ‘Lizard’ Schulz, German band Evidence
One have put together one of the classiest albums I have heard for a
long time. Ten tracks that are so diverse and different that they can
only be presented in one package that is ‘Criticize the Truth’.
Originally started as a solo project for Frontline’s guitarist Robby
Bobel, things soon gathered momentum once he’d hooked up with said Mr.
Schulz and they started to put pen to paper and put down some songs and
tunes. Before you know it they’re bringing into the fold Robby’s
fellow band mate Thomas Bauer to cover the bass duties and Shakra’s
powerhouse drummer Roger Tanner who Carsten knew from an earlier
co-headliner tour with the band. By this time it simply wasn’t a solo
project anymore, both Robby and Carsten had realized the potential and
power that had been brought together with these four musicians and out
of it was born Evidence One.
This album is steeped in strong vocals backed by excellent harmonies,
nestled on a bed of strong drum beats that capture your attention
without being too full on. All this is held together with the
magnificent soaring guitars and lift the songs to a higher level. Some
people are going to call this album the AOR of the year; others will
call it the Hard Rock album of the year. Whatever it is, it’s
certainly impressed me and although it started out originally as simply
a project album, a one off so to speak, I truly hope the band
‘recognize the truth’ in what they have created and continue this
band for a great many albums after this.
There is something for everyone on this album. A very diverse
effort but not too diverse as to put you off. The production on
this album is excellent. To put 10 very different tracks together
is a work of art in its own right. To say who the band might sound like
is difficult as each track gives you such a different sound and feel,
that to try and pigeon hole the band to one or more categories would
simply not do them justice.
But of course you don’t have to take my word for it, go out and buy a
copy and I promise you you’ll not regret it.
