One
thing that 2010 has shown is that Italy has become the new Scandinavia
when it comes to great Melodic and Hard Rock bands, and right to the
wire of the year another Italian comes out of the blocks all guns
blazing and shows the rest of Europe that Italy ROCKS! ... and rocks big
style. That name is Fabri Kiareli and his F.E.A.S.T
with his stunning debut album ‘Rise’. From
the off this album will rock your world and take you on a magic carpet
ride of pure gold Melodic/Hard Rock. The opener ‘Fire and Dynamite’
gets the album off to a tremendous start, with Kiareli not only showing
us he can deliver monster hooks on the old six string razor, but also he
delivers a damn fine vocal to boot. The
great hard rockin’ continues with the excellent ‘Feed The Hunger’,
the hard-edged guitar vibe of ‘Love Renegade’ and the awe-inspiring
riff fuelled rocker ‘Dangerous Love’. But if I had to pick one
outstanding track from the album (which would be hard to do), then I
would have to pick ‘Follow The Way’. A real Hard Rock gem
which features a duet with the mighty Alessandro Del Vecchio of Eden’s
Curse and Glenn Hughes fame, a real old school rocker that is very much
in the late great Ronnie James Dio vein. After
the last track it's time to sit back and get your breath back with a
couple of power ballads. First up it's ‘Cold Heated’ with its
soaring guitar licks, then it's ‘(Aint Over) 'Til It's Over’, with
its more bluesy Whitesnake feel. But if
you want to really hear what Kiareli can do with the six string then
check out the more metal ‘Win Or Lose’ as he fires out riff after
mother f**king riff. But if that’s not your bag and you like a
more down beat and less paced song, then check out the stunning
‘Stormwind’ and the equally sublime ‘Broken Dreams’. Two
songs with a true epic feel to them. I like
my music it big and ballsy so the next track ‘Shock Me’ really
floats my boat. It's big and meaty rock with just a touch of funk
about it, again Kiareli’s is firing on all six cylinders on this one
both vocally and as a guitarist. Speaking
of firing on all cylinders it's pedal to the METAL once more with the
hell raising ‘Burning Fever’ before the album closes with the epic
seven minute opus ‘The Meaning Of Life’. A real classy piece
to end one of the best debut albums of the year and one that will put
the name of Fabri Kiareli well and on truly on the lips of many. Since
the making of this album where Kiareli played all instruments except for
the drums, he has put together a band line up of F.E.A.S.T. that
consists of Lukino Ballabio on guitars, Luke plays the solo mid section
of '(Ain't Done) 'Til It's Over'. Angelo Perini on bass and Mao
Granata on drums. Mao did all drums on the album so watch out for
the band in 2011 because if this album is anything to go by this band
will rock live. |
