The
Question is how do you bring back that 80's retro sound without yourself
being pigeon holed as a retro band? The answer is simply do what
Sweden's Fake Moss have done, and bring that 80's indie style right up
to date.
Named after the troubled
supermodel Kate Moss, Fake Moss have seen a number of faces in the band
come and go, however, it wasn't until 2001 that the band really started
to some into their own and develop the sound they hold so true with this
release.
This album is a mix
of the bands previous single 'Movies' and their 2002 EP, together with
four previously unreleased tracks. The result is an album that shows
just how much this band have evolved. In
fact this album originally started out as being a normal single.
It was simply supposed to be a single, with a title track, a b-side and
a remix. However, somewhere along the lines it just grew out of
control and ended up a single with 11 b-sides. Even with the
wildest stretch of the imagination I doubt anyone can call this a single
any longer.
These days you're lucky to find 11 tracks on an album release, let alone
a single. If there'd been any more goodies included on this
release we'd have been looking at a digi-pack or double disc release.
No, this is most definitely an album I am pleased to confirm.
The
almost somber vocals are a definitely in the same vane as Joy Division,
The Smiths , with just a touch of The Doors
thrown in for good
luck.
Along with two enhanced video tracks, the whole package is well put
together and the modern twist on the late 80's early 90's indie sound
works well. I for one can't wait for more recent material to be
released so I truly can discover just how far the band have actually
progressed during this time musically.
Stirring
stuff!
