Hailing
from Cumbria Falling Red are one of those rare breeds of young bands who
don’t fall for convention and do the music they want to do, hard, fast
and dirty. This
album is a real insight into the minds of these four young guys,
they’ve been described as a modern Guns n' Roses by some, but they are
so much more than that, this band don’t have attitudes bigger than the
band and its music. The
album gets underway with ‘How You Feel (On Me)' and from here on in
you're thrown back to that Sunset Strip style, but with a modern edge.
Yes
the bad ass rock is there in spades, but the boys also have a punk
influence, not your Sex Pistols more The Ramones or even a New York Dolls
vibe, groove filled rock with attitude. The
album continues with ‘Thrive’, again a huge guitar sound wrapped around
a monster back beat, as frontman Rozey delivers a sleaze driven vocal as
well as pumping out the licks on lead guitar faster than a Uzi delivers
rounds. To
keep this style fresh and modern you’ve got to have belief in
yourselves to deliver the goods and bring in something new and the band
have it in buckets full, as one of my favourite tracks off the album
‘Out Of Control” shows. This is groove filled rock at its best and
it has one of the best sing-a-long chorus lines I’ve heard this year. ‘You
Were Out To Get Me’ and ‘Sue You For Your Soul’ are straight up
rock n' roll, think Helicopters or Backyard Babies and you won't be far
wrong with what these guys sound like. There's no rest for the wicked as things continue at breakneck speed with
‘Immoral Heights Of A Lowlife’ and the anthemic tones of ‘No Good,
So Wrong, So Right’, before this tremendous album closes with the title
track ‘Shake The Faith’, a real stomping rocker. The
band are currently on tour with Dave Evans and ripping up a storm and
later are touring the UK, so if you missed them this time, check them out
next time, because these guys sure know how to rock and keeping the sleaze
flag flying here in the UK. |
