The
fashion world has now embraced all that was fab about the 80’s and
those big hair, massive shoulder pads are once again parading the cat walks,
but its taken a little longer for the music scene to once again reach
out for a little dirty rock n' roll. As a die-hard Hair Metal and Glam
Rock fan, I’ve been longing to reach back into the Narnia world at the
back of my wardrobe and bring out the glitz and glamour once more. One
band hell bent on leading this revival are Falling Red. The band
featuring Rozey, Shane, Dave and Matty bring the kind of Hollywood Sleaze and
Sunset attitude that made the eighties what it was. This was shown
with their debut album ‘Shake The Faith’ and high energy rock n' roll
shows that followed around the country throughout 2010. So now
in 2011 the boys return with their EP ‘Hasta La Victoria Siempre’,
which I see as a taste of what’s to come from them in the not so
distant future. These four tracks are true Dirty Rock n' Roll at
its
modern best, with the attitude of the Backyard Babies and ballsy grit of
Brides of Destruction rolled into one tight bundle. Starting
the party is with ‘Come On Down’ this gritty, ballsy, sleaze riffed
filled monster really show the boys have not only the attitude but the
tunes to support it, there have been a few pretenders to the British
Glam Throne over the years, some trying to be the new Crue or the next
Poison, but all have fallen by the wayside, either by lack of commitment or
having the look but not the music to back it up, or just not being original enough,
but I’m glad to see these four guys have all the above and even more. Having
caught them live on a number of occasions last year I can confirm they
are able to deliver the good both live
as well as on record. That full on attitude continues with ‘My Little
Vice’, again it's riff filled sleaze at break neck speed, but the band
aren’t all about big brash sounds, they show they have a gentle side as
the ballad ‘The Last Kiss Goodbye’. This is the bands 'Every Rose...' or
perhaps more so 'Satellite Kid' moment, as Rozey brings a Tyla-esque vocal to
the table on this one. The EP
closes with a song that has been the closer for the guys live shows the
ass kicking sleaze anthem ‘Aint Down With The Rock’. An all guns blazing
attitude Skid Row-esque rocker that wraps up this far too short
record. I
hope this is just a taster for the next album because in a world where
bad news and doom and gloom are becoming everyday occurrences, you need a
little self indulgence to you back up and put a smile back on your face,
and these guys are the best medicine for beating those modern day
blues. If you haven’t seen these guys live then do check them
out. They will be touring the UK in April so beg, steal or borrow the cash to catch the
live show, because these four sure know how to party. |
