FeedForward are
a Dutch quintet who mix the more progressive edged sound with pure
melodic harmonies and a touch of metal for good measure. The
result of which is the quite outstanding 'Barefoot And Naked'.
The album gets underway with 'Fade
Away’, a great opener that instantly gets your attention like a good
opener should, with its huge atmospheric keyboards and guitars, all
capped by the superb vocals of Biejanka who brings grace and depth to
not just to this track, but the entire album. The album continues to impress as
thing continue with ‘Run The Race’, another keyboard filled piece of
progressive excellence, only this time with a futuristic edge to it. The tempo is brought down a little
with the haunting tones of ‘Crossing The Line’ and the excellent
‘Innocence’, a track where Biejanka really comes into her own. Things pick up tempo wise with the
thumping rockier vibe of ‘143’ before things take a more gentle
repose, with another haunting melody courteously of Biejanka’s gentle
tones on ‘Our Sky (For One Time)’. It's back to the more heavier
refrain with one of my favourite tracks off the album the excellent
‘Before I Leave’. A track that once again brings the gentle
tones of Biejanka to the forefront of the song. Another step into
the heavier sound is the stomping ‘Silent’, a real prog rock master
class by the band on this one mixing some outstanding keys with a
thumping rhythm section, all interwoven by the vocals. Next is another of my favourites
from the album, the majestic instrumental ’Moving’, which starts off
gently then slowly builds into a wall of sound containing swirling
keyboards, a thumping rhythm section and streaming guitars. The album closes with ‘Stop and
Think’, another vocal gem backed the rest of the band who remain
stalwart throughout the entire album. This is a band who I’d
really like to hear more of and hopefully catch live here in the UK.
Great release from a band who will go far on the strength of this album
alone. |
