Second
surprise of the month is this monster on Music for Nations. Firebird are
a power trio in the true sense, guitar, bass, drums, guitarist handles
vocals and blows solos at every opportunity.
This is music with a serious retro feel bringing together memories of
bands such as Cream, Trower, Purple and some Gov't Mule overtones in
their looser moments.
The biggest surprise of all is that of who is on guitar and vocals, I
had to look twice when I saw the name of Bill Steer, to those of you who
don't know Bill was original guitarist in Napalm Death and Carcass. Bill
has obviously grown up and wants to play real music now.
Deluxe is a monster release full of some serious retro vibe and some
killer guitar from Steer whose vocals are a revelation.
My personal fave is Sinner Takes All which has a riff to die for almost
funky in its execution with a stunning solo, this is fairly
representative of the whole album and is a perfect addition to anyone's
collection. Awesome !!!
