After a ten-year hiatus Canadian rockers Fist return to put the metal back on the rock n' roll highway. And as the album opens up with 'Pressure' it's clear from the off the classic riffs of a by-gone age are about to return with a vengeance. This combined with the rasping vocals of Ron Chenier complete this mighty classic rock / metal formula. The album continues with 'Right In It', a much more heavier affair while still retaining that classic rock feel to the sound, contains some tremendously monstrous riffs from Chenier, which are the real meat and bones of the track, mixed together with some great keyboards courtesy of Laurie Curry. The tempo is then hitched up a notch or two with 'It Ain't Easy', which finds Chenier doing his best Nicky Moore of Samson impression on this one. The band definitely have an affinity with motorbikes as they are mentioned several times throughout the album. Take for example the next track 'I Don’t Care', which has biker well and truly branded on it's backside and is a true classic in the making. The album returns to its aggressive edge with 'Nothing To Say'. Although the aggressive vocals are paramount to this track it doesn’t steer you away from the magnificent keyboards once more brought on by Curry. The rock just keeps on coming with this album, with the more rockier tracks being 'Time Is Running Out' and 'Down The Drain', while it’s the tracks like 'Calm Before The Storm' and my favourite track off the album ‘Out In The Desert', that really makes this album for me and shows the band are more than just another biker band. It shows that they can write a meaningful song as well. The
tempo of the album changes once again with the darkly menacing tones of
‘Headed For A Breakdown' and the icing on the cake the final track
'Behind The Bolted Door', another dark one which finds Chenier ripping
out some fantastic riffs on this closer to what is a great return album
by the band. |
