Black
Empire is the newest release from former Mercyful Fate guitarists Hank
Shermann and Michael Denners Force of Evil. Keeping up the traditional
metal feel of the 2004 self titled debut release, Black Empire dwells
heavily on the classic horror movie theme with this release a sort of
Wes Craven, John Carpenter, Clive Barker tribute album.
The twin guitar salvo that is associated with the likes of Judas Priest
is a very prominent feature of the Force of Evil sound and is found in
abundance on this new release.
This traditional metal sound is what the likes of Metallica used to
produce before they concentrated more on Napster and less on the music
that made them Metal Icons in many people's eyes.
This brash full throttle album is a must for anyone who just likes to
bang their head and rip on that air guitar with their hifi volume on
ten.
The opening and title track Black Empire is just metal the way it should
be fast and furious and the powerful vocals of Martin Steene just rip
out note after note of sheer unabashed vigour and menace that hasn’t
been heard since Halford donned leather and studs and started to preach
metal to the masses.
Just by looking at the track listing you can tell what your in for, with
titles like 'Back to Hell', 'Death Comes Calling', 'Days of Damien' and
'Dead in Texas' the very nature of the band shines through without
having to hear any of the tracks themselves but you should never or less
still grab yourself a copy of this album if you like it hard and fast (ooohh
misses) then this album is a must
