Artist: Marty Friedman
   Title: Loudspeaker
   Label: Mascot Records

'Loudspeaker' is the new solo instrumental release from Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman.  The album has already top the charts in Japan where Marty has a huge following and who now lives in Tokyo.

The album is the heaviest of his solo career and highlights what has become known as the Marty-esque school of guitar playing, with his unique no nonsense riffs and melodies.

The album gets off to an auspicious start with ‘Elixir’ a track that definitely highlights the heavier side of Friedman’s guitar playing, while still retaining a lot of subtle melodies and tempo changes a great start to the album.

This heavier approach is continued with ‘Street Demon (Santa Rosa Wrecking Mix)’, another track of soaring riffs and heavy bass lines intermixed with a thunderous drum beat and ‘Black Orchid’, with its punk style guitar mixed with some tuned down guitar and more of that Marty-esque guitar.  This goes down as one of my favourite tracks off the album just because of all the different guitar styles included on this one track.

The album continues with the very impressive ‘Paradise Express’ which features the bass skills of Billy Sheehan.  Another guest musician to appear on the album is non other than Steve Vai who guests on ‘Viper’, another outstanding track as all of them are.

I’m not usually impressed by total guitar albums but it's plain to see how this album shot straight to the top of the Japanese charts.  I’m sure that it will hit all the right notes with Friedman’s fans world wide when its released in general to the world.  As guitar albums go this has to be one of the best I’ve heard this year so far and it will take something special to supersede this one.
