Former Samson and Mammoth vocalist Nicky Moore has always been associated with the NWOBHM sound of the heyday of the British metal scene, and with this new band it's more of the same, twin guitar rock that made the British rock such a driving force in the late seventies early eighties. Joining Nicky are former Nazareth guitarist Manny Charlton are the Swedish quartet Mikael Fassberg and Fredrik Borg also on guitars, Carl-Michael Hildesjo on drums, and finally Andreas Grufstedt on bass. Together this sextet bring the sound of classic rock back to the forefront of today’s music scene. The album opens up with ‘Queen Bitch’ and immediately the years are thrown aside and the classic rock fan inside me is released once again. The vocals of Moore sounding just as good as they did all those years ago in Samson. The classic rock style continues with ‘Catwalk’ a real good fun time song that shouldn’t be taken too seriously. The powerhouse vocals of Moore are put through their paces on ‘What You’re Doing’ a real foot-tapper of a track. The band shows off its softer side with the ballads ‘Picture’ and the excellent ‘Gone’, and the band also show us their heavier darker side with the haunting ‘Family’, and the menacing ‘Boneman’. But it’s the passion of Moore’s voice on ‘Crutch’ that makes it one of the highlights of the album. The up tempo mood of the album is restored with ‘Play Dirty’, a track that reminds me of Moore’s Mammoth years. The
album closes with ‘Size Doesn’t Matter’ a track that isn’t about
what you think from the title. It tell about the fateful maiden
voyage of the Titanic and rounds off a great album that fans of classic
rock have been waiting for and shows the young bands of today what a
vocalist should sound like. |
