Bare Knuckle

Now c'mon, it is something they put in the water over there, isn't it?  Well, whatever it is, our Irish brothers seem to have a knack of producing that special band every now and then which stands out from all the others.  Next on that list surely must be Gentlemen Of Distorted Sound.

Their new release 'Bone Idol' E.P. is a 5-track collection of classic hard rock that will have you begging for more, which by all accounts is due in 2012, so don't miss out!

Beginning with the awesome 'Electric', the growling riff will blow any festive hangovers away in an instant, though the quietest, meanest vocals describing how Jesus is feeling as he cocks a gun may just make you wish you still had a pint in your hand!

Blazing guitar, bass and drums all merge together with Gareth Nugent's roaring vocals to form one hell of an opening track that will be very hard to eat this year.

'Beautiful Face For Evil' is no less a rocker, it's heartbeat being the steady power-drumming that lays its path all through the song.  The grungy hook adds an edge to its ballsy attitude that spills out, and you'll also find one of the best lines you will hear in a long time.  A woman who has an Elvis tattoo that winks when she bends!  Eat your heart out Steel Panther!

The band mellow down a touch on 'The Gods', a power ballad of sorts if you want to categorize it, (though lyrically not the usual themes), and it shows the band possibly at their strongest on the E.P.  A scratching riff and wandering bass line matching each other before it all explodes on the second chorus, sending a shiver down your spine.

A definite classy 'non ballad' if there ever was one!

Next up comes the good-time boogie button with their combined versions of 'La Grange (Shinin' On)', made famous by ZZ Top and Grand Funk Railroad, and a fine job they do as well.  Of course, it's all done in the way G.O.D.S. do it, so it has that kick-ass attitude, but your foot still does its tapping!

The E.P. ends on another hard rocker note with 'Breathe', its hints of 70's rock seeping in via some heavy riffage from Mako yet again.  In fact, the whole band go hell for leather here, Mr Nugent giving it some welly on the vocals as the saying goes!  A great way to finish a great E.P.

Just for the record, as a live act, the band have a stage presence that commands the audience to watch without them being arrogant, and you just have to see the Red Indian head-dress that Mako wears!  They are also a really nice, down to earth bunch as well when you meet them, so that's another plus for Gentlemen Of Distorted Sound.

Good luck lads, see you in 2012.
