It’s a rarity nowadays for a young band to grab my attention, as most of the young bands of today either have the weight of the world on their shoulders, or they so want to be the next big thing that they will jump onto the band wagon of what’s the flavour this week creating music which is only a means to an end. But after seeing this bunch of young ardent rockers recently as a support slot for another great up and coming band, they have reassured my faith in young bands. Get Vegas are a breath of fresh air to the scene. They are four young guys who rock like they mean it. This four track EP is one of the best I’ve heard from an unsigned band for a while. The band's influences are varied from classic rock acts like Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, Free and Rush, to the more contemporary bands like Silvertide, The Datsuns and Black Rebel Motorcycle Company. With this in mind Get Vegas still retain their individuality with a sound that is very much in the vane of Girl with the vocals of Jonny Cole, who himself looks like a young Lou Gramm. The EP opens up with ‘Speed’, a track that is as fresh and vibrant that it puts the band's talents on show for everyone to hear. I'm really impressed with the guitar playing of Ash Walker who also shines brightly on the second track ‘Hard Lovin’. The third track ‘Break It Down’ is my favourite track on the EP, it's just excellent. It has that classic hard rock edge but with a modern spin. The last track ‘Don’t Need Your Love’ shows the band aren’t one trick ponies as they bring it down a little with this track, which slowly builds into a flurry of guitar riffs and monster bass lines and sees Jonny Cole giving what is probably his of the best vocal performances on the EP. It would be criminal if this band isn’t picked up by a label soon they have the songs, they have a unique sound, and have a great future if only they are given the breaks. I'm really
looking forward to seeing these guys perform live
again soon. |
