It's
been a long time coming but finally the third Giant album is here. Oh
boy and it's just what we'd hoped, more of that good stuff we've come to
cherish so much.
There must be few rock fans in the heady 80's that didn't have a copy of
their debut album 'Last of the Runaways' mixed in with their record
collection. This album was as solid as they come and firmly cemented the
band's reputation as one of great catchy melodic/light rock tunes and a
whole lot of talent into the bargain.
Quite why it's taken the band so long to release this third album to the
masses is a bit of a mystery. I know perfection takes time but they were
brilliant in 1991 when they released their second album so why a 10 year
break? Whatever the reasons for it it's been well worth the wait believe
me.
Anyone who remembers Giant from their hey days will treasure this little
beauty for all it's worth. Those of you not old enough to fully
appreciate just how grand this band are could perhaps compare the sound
to some of the newer Foreigner material. Mix that with a sprinkling of
Van Halen and you know where they're coming from.
Take 'Over You' for instance. Wow this song is just about as lush as you
get. Lead singer Dann Huff's voice has held that silky smooth side to it
without being dampened down with time. It's still fresh and sprightly
and makes the songs such a delight to listen to. Luckily enough both
brother David on drums and Mike Brignardello on bass also have great
vocals and do a wonderful job on the backing vocals.
This is an album that sounds great in the house but is also rather
wonderful to have blasting out over the stereo in the car. Oh I can't
wait till the summer so I can really wind down those windows and give
this album the chance to be carried on the wind. With it's up beat songs
and catchy riffs it's begging to be let out into the sunshine. After one
listen you know you've got a great album here. After two listens you
wanna turn up the dial and sing out loud at the top of your voice along
with it.
So which songs made me sing out loud then? What tickled my tonsils? Well
'Love can't help you Now' and 'The sky is the Limit'. Which one got me
dancing? Hee hee, well I simply I adored their version of Robert
Palmer's 'Bad case of loving You'. That's one song that I've always
adored to hear a band play well. Not many can but when they do it's all
the more special.
To sum this album up I would have to say it's tremendous fun, sounds
great and is packed full of energy. It's simply adorable and one I would
strongly recommend you check out!
