Artist: Paul Gilbert |

Paul Gilbert has long been regarded as one of the major talents in the guitar world, both during with his time with Racer X and of course his time with Mr Big. Paul has also released several solo albums but “Get Out Of My Yard’ is his very first full on instrumental release. Paul is helped on this release not only by Mike Szuter on bass and Jeff Bowders on drums, but also by his wife Emi who plays keyboards on a couple of tracks. The album opens up with ‘Get Out Of My Yard’, a track which Gilbert himself says that the first 38 seconds are impossible to play, but he played it anyway. The album is full of spell binding riffs like this. This isn’t an album that you can get lost in like other so called musicians albums, this is an album that you have to listen to intently or you’ll miss a vital riff or a power chord that will simply blow you away. With tracks as diverse as the rockier tracks like ‘The Curse Of Castle Dragon’, ‘Straight Through The Telegraph Pole’, to the more bluesy tracks ‘Radiator’, ‘Twelve Twelve’ and ‘Rusty Old Boat’, and on to the futuristic sounding of ‘The Echo Song’, to the down right sleazy sound of ‘My Teeth Are A Drum Set’. This album has it all with even a classic piece thrown in for all you culture lovers ‘Haydn Symphony No.88 Finale’. This is quite
an album full of different ideas and sounds put together by a master
guitar player and one worthy of any collection whether you're into
guitar albums or not. |
