After
a seven-year hiatus the Dutch metal machine that is Gorefest are back
and this time its for real.
Those familiar with the band know what to expect from the Dutch quartet
but those of you unfamiliar with their sound can expect a no holds
barred approach and the now legendary double bass assault that has
become a trademark of the band and snarling vocals of Jan-Chris De
Koeijer.
Gorefest aren’t you typical Death Metal band they don’t just go in
all guns blazing they have great melody and depth to their songs,
something that cant be said for a band of this particular genre.
The album opens up in true Gorefest style with 'For The Masses' as the
double bass drums thunder in the background, the vocals of Jan-Chris
sound as raw and demonic as ever.
'When The Dead Walk The Earth' and 'You Could Make Me Kill' are very
similar in concept and fit into the more familiar Death Metal soundings
were as 'Malicious Intent' is a full on metal assault that goes at break
neck speed, a mosh-pit favourite for sure.
'Rogue State' gives you time to get you breath back and highlights the
drumming prowess of Ed Warby as he hammers away at the skins for all his
worth.
'The Call' is another track that highlights Warby as a drummer but also
has some of the best guitar riffs to be found on the entire album.
Other tracks of note have to be 'The New Gods' once again for its power
house drumming and the title track 'La Muerte' for its almost Sabbath
bass lines and its sheer complexity.
If you’re a fan of the band then this is a welcome return if you
haven’t heard anything by Gorefest before then I highly recommend
checking this album out.
