One of the highlights of
2007 was the return of Southern California’s blues rock legends Great
White, when they not only returned with a new album, but also went on to
celebrate the bands 25 year anniversary in 2008 with a full world tour.
The band of Jack Russell, Mark Kendall, Audie Desbrow, Michael Lardie and Scott Snyder return in 2009 with another great bluesy rock album entitled Rising. Produced by Lardie the album retains all the trademark vibes that made the band the phenomena they are, and this trait hits the mark from the off with the opener ‘Situation’ which from the opening chords could be no other than Great White, with Russell’s vocals showing no sign of the band 25 year history they still remain strong and true to this day. The album picks it up a touch with one of the many highlights of the album ‘All Or Nothin’ with Kendall showing off those trade mark blues riffs that make up Great White. Just two tracks in and this album surpasses the bands comeback album ‘Back To The Rhythm’ and that was a great album. The band really show their class with the excellent ‘I Don’t Mind’, this time Lardie’s keyboards are brought up a little in the mix and really make this one. The band never say die attitude has seen the band overcome more adversities than most and this hasn’t stopped the band doing what they do best deep filled Blues Rock and with great tracks like ‘Shine’, the up tempo rocker ‘ Danger Zone’, which is incidentally my favourite track off the album, the soulful ‘Is It Enough’, all classic slices of Great White. This album really is the
best thing the band have done since 'Once Bitten' so let's hope
there’s a tour in offing because last time I saw them as part of the
25 year anniversary shows, they just blew me away. So here's
hoping 2009 is another great year for the band. |
