American
pop-punksters Green Day's latest offering 'Warning' is a mixed bag of
songs.
If you haven't heard of Green Day before then you're in for a treat, if
you're expecting 70's style punk then you will be greatly disappointed.
Green Day offer you the new sound of punk for a new generation of
rebellious teens.
Songs with meaning and an outlook on life is what you get. The band open
with the title track 'Warning', which was also one of the very first
singles to be released. So far it has received heavy radio rotation on
all the major stations and a lot of people will have heard it and loved
it without actually realizing who it was they were listening to. Even
the old fogies would find something to enjoy on this album.
With it's addictive tune it soon hooks you in and has you listening to
the lyrics, which are bound to have you reassessing your life before you
know it. Just perfect for sticking in the car stereo and turning up
while enjoying the heady summer we are having.
Before you know it you are into the next song 'Blood, Sex and Booze'.
You forget about the meaning of life and go back to enjoying life. What
a twisted life you lead!
'Fashion Victim' is about a person everybody knows, a person who has to
have the latest designer labels. It could be the person you sit next to
at work, or maybe in the pub, or even worse it could be you!
It only takes 3 chords from the opening of 'Misery' before it's gypsy
sounds entrance you and make you want to dance back and force in a line
and smash some plates!
If you think I've lost the plot then have a listen and then you try and
resist it! This is one of the many talents this band have, they know how
to not only put out some great tunes, but they also know just how to get
the opening lines just right.
'Hold On' is another great foot stomper of a track that sounds great
with the windows down and the volume turned up. Another single release
is 'Minority'. A bouncy feel good chorus that grabs that foot and makes
it tap away throughout this catchy little number. Reminds me a bit of
The Levellers and their infectious grooves.
This album is cram packed with songs they could release as singles,
hopefully the clubs will pick up on this and give it the airing it
deserves.
Some people have said that Green Day have sold out, well maybe they
have, maybe they haven't. They deserve all the recognition they are
receiving now, they've been around for eons and they have worked bloody
hard to get where they are now.
One things for sure this album is one of the best they have ever
released and should keep both older fans and their news ones happy until
the next release.
